Privacy Policy

This policy describes how Jsonformatter (jsonformatter.tech) handles information. It describes how the site works on the effective date.

Effective date:

In short

  • The text you type or paste, or open from a local file, is processed in your browser and is never sent to the server.
  • Usage counts, page views and performance metrics are on by default and you can turn them off at any time with the “Measurement settings” button in the footer. They never include your text.
  • The site itself sets one cookie, which remembers your language, and only if you choose a language yourself.
  • The site shows ads from Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies, web beacons and IP addresses to serve ads, including ads based on your visits to other sites. You can opt out of personalized ads: see “Advertising” and “Your choices about ads” below.
  • If you press the theme button on a tool page, your browser saves your light or dark choice for the tool panel. It is never sent to the server.
  • If you switch the Auto run option on a tool page, your browser saves that choice as an item called jsonformatter.auto-run in its local storage. It holds only the word on or off, is written only when you press the switch, and is never sent to the server.

Who is responsible

Jsonformatter is operated by Luis Carvalho, an individual, under the Carvalho Software brand.

This person is responsible for the site and for the data processing described in this policy.

Your text

Text and local files, including Word, Excel, PDF and images, are read and processed in your browser and never uploaded. OCR and PDF reading download their processing files, including OCR language data and the PDF worker, from this same site only when those tools run. No document or image content goes to third parties. Markdown previews do not load external images; they show alt text instead.

Text inputs stay in tab memory when switching tools or languages and end on reload or close. Local file inputs need reopening after navigation. Content is never written to browser storage, cookies or the address (URL). Paste to Markdown reads clipboard content only from your paste action, not automatically.

Copy and Copy formatted write to your clipboard only when you click them. Download creates a file in your browser; nothing is uploaded. We cannot promise when your browser or operating system will release the memory it used, because that is outside the control of the site.

Language preference

If you choose a language yourself with the language links, the site saves a cookie called preferred-language. It holds only the language code (en, pt-br or es), lasts 12 months and is used only to pick the language when you open the site root.

Opening a page in a given language directly does not set or change this cookie. It does not depend on your choice about usage counts.

Panel theme preference

If you press the theme button on a tool page, the site saves an item called jsonformatter.panel-theme in the local storage of your browser. It holds only the word light or dark and is used only to choose the light or dark look of the tool panel.

It is written only when you press the button, and it has no expiry: it stays until you clear the site data in your browser. It is never sent to the server, and it does not depend on your choice about usage counts. On a first visit, and until you press the button, the tool panel follows the light or dark setting of your device and nothing is stored.

Optional usage and performance metrics

Jsonformatter measures tool use, page views and performance. These optional reports are on by default and you can turn them off at any time with the “Measurement settings” button in the footer. If you choose “Decline” there, or if your browser blocks storage, no optional report is sent and every tool works the same.

While measurement is on, each time a tool run ends in one of three outcomes (completed, input rejected or technical error), your browser sends a report with exactly four values: the tool, that outcome, the language of the page, and whether this browser has visited before (yes or no). It never sends the text you typed.

The application database stores only a daily counter for that combination of values and the current day (UTC date). These anonymous tool counts are kept for 13 calendar months and then deleted.

To tell new visits from returning ones, your browser keeps three small items:

  • your “Decline” or “Allow” choice, if you make one, and the date you made it. A “Decline” choice is kept until you clear the site data in your browser; an “Allow” choice is kept for six calendar months;
  • a creation date, kept for 90 days. It has no identifier and is never renewed. When it expires, a new one is created on your next visit while measurement is on;
  • a flag for the current tab (returning or not), which lasts only as long as that tab.

The returning figure is an estimate of browser use, not a count of people. A tab opened from another tab of this site, or a duplicated tab, can carry over the flag of that tab and count as the same visit, which is one reason the returning figure is only an estimate.

You can change your mind at any time with the “Measurement settings” button in the footer of every page. Choosing “Decline” stops new reports and deletes the creation date. Counts already sent are anonymous totals that cannot be traced to a person, so they cannot be deleted one by one.

Optional metrics use no cookies. Tool reports go to our application. Page views and performance reports go through our domain to Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights. We remove URL queries and fragments, allow only known public page paths, and block custom events and the initial page view when it carries a referrer from another site. These services receive no editor text or local file contents.

Vercel processes the page path, event time, browser, operating system, device type and derived country. Speed Insights also measures network speed, load and interaction timings, layout shifts and the page element selectors associated with those measurements. Vercel handles request metadata under its own privacy policies. Its metrics have separate retention rules from our 13-month tool counters.

Server and hosting

The site serves the tool code and processing files, including the OCR and PDF files described above. The API stores only the daily counters described above, not your text or local files. Advertising and optional metrics are separate, as described in this policy.

For each request it handles, the application logs only the HTTP method, the route, the response status code and how long it took. When a request fails with a server error, it also logs the status code, the type of the error and its error code, if it has one. It does not log request contents, your text or error messages.

The hosting and database providers, and the networks between you and the site, may also record standard request metadata, such as your IP address and browser user agent, under their own policies. We cannot promise how long they keep it.

The deletion after 13 months applies to the counters in the database. We cannot promise that provider backups or logs are cleared at the same time.

Advertising

Jsonformatter shows ads served by Google AdSense. Google and other third-party vendors use cookies, web beacons and IP addresses to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and to other sites on the Internet.

These third parties, not Jsonformatter, place and read those cookies in your browser and collect that information when ads are served. They may also use it to measure ads and to detect fraud and abuse. What they collect is handled under their own policies.

To learn how Google uses data when you use the sites and apps of its partners, read:

Your choices about ads

You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google in your Google ad settings, and opt out of the use of cookies by many other advertising companies on the industry opt-out pages:

Opting out does not remove ads. You may still see ads, but they are not personalized to your interests. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

Visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for their choice through a consent message certified by Google. If you do not consent, the site and every tool keep working the same, and the ads you see are not personalized.

What the site does not use

  • No accounts or sign-in.
  • No custom analytics events.
  • No cookies for usage counts.

Applicable law and your rights

Jsonformatter is operated from Brazil by an individual. Brazil's General Personal Data Protection Law (LGPD, Law No. 13,709/2018) applies to the processing described in this policy. Visitors may also have rights under the laws of the place where they live.

Under the LGPD, you may ask for:

  • confirmation that your data is processed, and access to it;
  • correction of your data;
  • anonymization, blocking or deletion of data that is unnecessary or excessive;
  • portability of your data;
  • deletion of personal data processed with your consent, except where the law allows it to be kept;
  • information about the sharing of your data;
  • information about the option not to consent and the consequences of refusing;
  • withdrawal of your consent;
  • filing a complaint with the Brazilian data protection authority (ANPD, Autoridade Nacional de Proteção de Dados).

To exercise these rights, write to us by email. We do not promise any deadline or response time.

Optional usage and performance metrics are on by default. You can turn them off at any time, and we respect that choice.

Some limits to know about:

  • The text you type or paste, or open from a local file, never reaches us.
  • Usage counts are anonymous daily totals that we cannot link to a person, so there is usually nothing identifiable to access, correct or delete.
  • The language cookie, the panel theme and Auto run settings and the usage count records in your browser are stored on your own device. Clearing your browser's site data removes them. The “Measurement settings” button in the footer lets you turn measurement off, which also deletes the creation date.
  • Request metadata recorded by the hosting and database providers is governed by those providers' policies.

Visitors in the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the GDPR, the UK GDPR or the Swiss data protection law may also apply to the processing described in this policy, alongside the LGPD.

We rely on these legal bases:

  • your consent, for the cookies and similar technologies that Google and its partners use to personalize ads. You are asked for it through a consent message certified by Google, and you can withdraw it at any time with the options of that message and the cookie settings of your browser;
  • our legitimate interests, for the anonymous usage counts and performance metrics, which you can turn off at any time with the button in the footer, for the language, theme and Auto run preferences you choose, and for keeping the site working and secure.

Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR, you may ask for:

  • access to your personal data;
  • correction of inaccurate data;
  • erasure of your data;
  • restriction of the processing of your data;
  • portability of your data;
  • objection to processing based on legitimate interests;
  • withdrawal of your consent at any time, without affecting the processing done before you withdrew it;
  • filing a complaint with a data protection authority: in the EEA, the authority of your country; in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO); in Switzerland, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC).

Google and its partners handle the information they collect for ads under their own policies. Data may be processed in countries other than the one where you live, including Brazil, where the site is operated.

To exercise these rights, write to us by email.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site changes. The effective date at the top of this page shows when this version took effect.

All tools

Format, validate and convert JSON, YAML, XML, CSV, HTML, CSS and Markdown, plus Base64, URL and JWT.

JSON

  • JSON Formatter

    Format JSON with one consistent layout: even indentation, one value per line, your values untouched. Runs the same formatter as JSON Beautifier.

  • JSON Validator

    Check whether your text is valid JSON. If it is not, see the first problem with its line and column, highlighted in your text.

  • JSON Diff

    Compare two JSON documents by structure, ignoring key order, and see every added, removed and changed path in one list.

  • JSON Schema Validator

    Validate JSON against a JSON Schema (draft 2020-12, or draft-07 through $schema) and see each error with the path where it occurs.

  • JSON Schema Generator

    Generate a JSON Schema (draft 2020-12) from a sample JSON document, ready to copy and refine.

  • JSON Beautifier

    Beautify minified or unevenly spaced JSON into readable, indented text, with your values untouched. Runs the same formatter as JSON Formatter.

Convert JSON

  • JSON to CSV

    Convert a JSON list of objects, or the first list of objects inside an object, to plain CSV text.

  • CSV to JSON

    Convert CSV to a JSON array of objects, using the header row as keys. Comma, semicolon and tab separators are detected, and values stay as text.

  • JSON to XML

    Convert JSON to plain, readable XML, with your numbers and text copied exactly as written.

  • XML to JSON

    Convert XML to JSON, with attributes as @name keys and repeated elements gathered into arrays so the structure carries over.

  • JSON to YAML

    Convert JSON to readable block YAML with 2 or 4 spaces of indentation, keeping every value and every number exactly as you wrote it.

  • YAML to JSON

    Convert YAML to JSON with anchors and aliases resolved. A file with several documents becomes a JSON array.

YAML

  • YAML Validator

    Check whether your YAML is valid under the YAML 1.2 Core rules, in one or several documents, and see the line and column of the first problem.

  • YAML Viewer

    Explore a YAML document as a tree you can open and close, with anchors, tags and aliases marked on the row where they appear.

  • YAML Formatter

    Format YAML with consistent indentation while keeping comments and values.

HTML, XML and CSS

  • HTML Formatter

    Format HTML into readable, indented markup. The result is plain text: scripts do not run and nothing in your HTML is loaded.

  • XML Formatter

    Format XML with clear indentation while preserving its content and meaning.

  • CSS Beautifier

    Beautify minified CSS into readable rules, one declaration per line, without changing what the CSS does. Runs the same formatter as CSS Formatter.

  • CSS Formatter

    Format CSS you maintain with one consistent style: the same indentation, spacing and spelling everywhere. Runs the same formatter as CSS Beautifier.

Encode & Decode

  • Base64 Encode/Decode

    Encode text to Base64 or decode Base64 back to text as UTF-8, with an option for the URL-safe Base64URL alphabet.

  • URL Encode/Decode

    Encode or decode text with %XX sequences, either as a URL component or as a full URL whose separators stay intact.

  • JWT Decoder

    Decode a JWT in your browser to read its header and payload, see the exp, iat and nbf dates and whether it has expired. The signature is not verified.

Markdown

New
  • Markdown Editor

    Free online Markdown editor and viewer: write or open an MD file, see a live GFM preview, then copy or download your Markdown.

  • Markdown to PDF

    Convert Markdown to PDF in your browser. Pick A4 or Letter paper and the margins, preview the document and download a real PDF file.

  • Markdown to Text

    Convert Markdown to plain text without losing code or punctuation. Choose how links appear, then copy the text or download a TXT file.

  • Markdown to Word

    Convert Markdown to Word: download an editable DOCX file that keeps headings, lists, tables and links. It runs in your browser.

  • Markdown to HTML

    Convert Markdown to HTML in your browser. Get an HTML fragment or a full document, check the preview, then copy or download it.

  • Markdown Table Generator

    Markdown table generator with an editable grid and column alignment. Import CSV or TSV, then copy or download the Markdown table.

  • Word to Markdown

    Convert Word to Markdown: open a DOCX file and get its headings, lists, links and tables as editable Markdown, all in your browser.

  • HTML to Markdown

    Convert HTML to Markdown from pasted markup or a local file. Scripts never run; headings, lists, links and simple tables carry over.

  • Markdown Formatter

    Markdown formatter that tidies your source and lists style suggestions for headings, spaces and the final newline. Review it before you copy.

  • Markdown to Image

    Convert Markdown to an image: choose the width and theme, preview your note or table and download a PNG or JPEG file.

  • Markdown to Rich Text

    Convert Markdown to rich text and copy it, formatted, into a document editor. Plain text is the fallback when rich copy is unavailable.

  • Markdown Table to JSON/CSV

    Convert a Markdown table to JSON or CSV. Review the headers and pick each column's type, so IDs and leading zeros stay as they are.

  • Excel to Markdown

    Convert Excel to Markdown: open an XLSX file, pick a sheet or a cell range and get a Markdown table without uploading the file.

  • Markdown to Excel

    Convert Markdown tables to Excel: download an XLSX file whose cells stay text, so leading zeros survive and nothing becomes a formula.

  • Paste to Markdown

    Paste to Markdown: turn copied rich text or HTML into Markdown. For plain text, apply heading and list actions yourself, then copy.

  • Markdown Compare

    Markdown compare: paste two versions or open two files and see which lines were added or removed in the source text.

  • Markdown to Mind Map

    Convert Markdown to a mind map: headings and lists become a map you can navigate and export. Built with Markmap, no account needed.

  • Mermaid Editor

    Mermaid live editor in your browser: write diagram code, see the preview and any syntax errors, and export SVG or PNG without an account.

  • Discord Markdown Preview

    Discord Markdown preview: check bold, code blocks and spoilers in an approximate local preview, then copy the message. No Discord account.

    Obsidian Markdown converter: adapt [[wiki links]] and embeds to standard Markdown and list the files your note refers to.

  • GitHub README Viewer

    GitHub README viewer: paste or open a README, see a GFM preview and set a base URL for relative links. Nothing is fetched from GitHub.

  • PDF to Markdown

    Convert PDF to Markdown locally: extract its text layer or run OCR on selected pages without text. Review and edit before copying or downloading.

  • Image to Markdown

    Convert an image to Markdown with OCR in your browser: read text from a PNG or JPEG, correct it, then copy or download. Accuracy varies.
