Convert Markdown to rich text and copy it, formatted, into a document editor. Plain text is the fallback when rich copy is unavailable.
What is Markdown to Rich Text?
Markdown to Rich Text is a free online tool that copies Markdown as formatted text, ready to paste into a document editor such as Word or Google Docs. You see the formatted preview first, and plain text is the fallback when your browser cannot copy rich text.
What it supports
- Headings, bold and italic text, lists, links, tables and code, copied as formatted content.
- A plain-text fallback when rich copy is unavailable.
Good to know
- Rich copy is not an RTF or DOCX file. It puts formatted content on your clipboard, and how it looks depends on the app you paste into.
- For a file you can save, use Markdown to Word.
How do I use Markdown to Rich Text?
- Paste your Markdown or open an MD file.
- Check the formatted preview.
- Press Copy formatted to write to the clipboard, then paste into your document. Nothing is copied automatically.
Example
A heading with bold and italic words.
# Status
All **green**, see the *table* below.Pasted into a document editor, it shows a heading with bold and italic words. If rich copy is blocked, you get the plain text instead.
Limits and privacy
Limits
- Text: up to 2,000,000 bytes of UTF-8 (about 2 MB). Accented letters and emoji take more than one byte each. Larger input or generated text is rejected.
Is my content sent to a server?
No. Your content and files are processed in your browser and never uploaded. OCR and PDF reading download processing files, including OCR language data and the PDF worker, from this same site only when those tools run; no content goes to third parties. Markdown previews show external images as alt text instead of loading them.
Copying puts a result on your clipboard and downloading saves it as a file, but only when you press the button. The file is created in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
