What is Markdown to HTML?
Markdown to HTML is a free online tool that converts GitHub Flavored Markdown to HTML in your browser. Take a fragment to paste into a page or a standalone document, and check a preview before you copy or download it.
What it supports
- An HTML fragment (only the content) or a standalone document.
- Headings with an id, so a link can point to a section, and links written with rel noreferrer noopener.
- Copy the HTML or download it as an HTML file.
Good to know
- The HTML is built from an allow list: raw HTML, scripts, styles and attributes in your Markdown do not survive.
- Images do not become img tags. They are written as their alt text, so nothing is loaded from other sites.
- A standalone document carries a restrictive content security policy and no external styles, fonts or images.
How do I use Markdown to HTML?
- Paste your Markdown or open an MD file.
- Under Output, choose HTML fragment or Full document. With Auto off, press Convert.
- Switch Result view between HTML and Preview, then Copy or Download the HTML.
Example
A short list with emphasis and a link.
## Shopping list
- Tea
- *Fresh* milk
[Store](https://example.com)
<h2 id="shopping-list">Shopping list</h2>
<ul>
<li>Tea</li>
<li><em>Fresh</em> milk</li>
</ul>
<p><a href="https://example.com" rel="noreferrer noopener">Store</a></p>
The heading gets an id, the link is written with rel noreferrer noopener, and the result is plain HTML text you can paste.
Limits and privacy
Limits
- Text: up to 2,000,000 bytes of UTF-8 (about 2 MB). Accented letters and emoji take more than one byte each. Larger input or generated text is rejected.
Is my content sent to a server?
No. Your content and files are processed in your browser and never uploaded. OCR and PDF reading download processing files, including OCR language data and the PDF worker, from this same site only when those tools run; no content goes to third parties. Markdown previews show external images as alt text instead of loading them.
Copying puts a result on your clipboard and downloading saves it as a file, but only when you press the button. The file is created in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
