Obsidian Markdown converter: adapt [[wiki links]] and embeds to standard Markdown and list the files your note refers to.
What is Obsidian Markdown Converter?
Obsidian Markdown Converter is a free online tool that adapts Obsidian-style notes to standard Markdown in your browser. It turns [[wiki links]] into regular links, writes image embeds as Markdown images and lists the files your note refers to, because it only sees the text you paste.
What it supports
- [[Note]], [[Note|label]] and [[Note#Heading]] links, written as ordinary Markdown links to Note.md.
- ![[image.png]] embeds, written as Markdown images, and other embeds, written as links.
- ==Highlights== become bold text; %%comments%% are removed.
- > [!note] callouts, written as a bold title inside a quote. Code spans and code blocks are left untouched.
Good to know
- Linked notes, images and other attachments are not available to the tool, so each link points to a file name, not to the file. The tool lists the files your note refers to.
- Properties, tags and plugin syntax are left as written.
- This site is not affiliated with Obsidian.
How do I use Obsidian Markdown Converter?
- Paste your Obsidian note.
- Review the converted Markdown and the list of files your note refers to.
- Copy the Markdown or download it.
Example
A note with a highlight, a labeled link and an embedded image.
==Ship== the beta, see [[Project Plan|the plan]].
![[diagram.png]]**Ship** the beta, see [the plan](Project%20Plan.md).
The highlight becomes bold, the link becomes a regular Markdown link to Project Plan.md and the embed becomes a Markdown image. The tool lists both referenced files; it does not try to open them.
Limits and privacy
Limits
- Text: up to 2,000,000 bytes of UTF-8 (about 2 MB). Accented letters and emoji take more than one byte each. Larger input or generated text is rejected.
Is my content sent to a server?
No. Your content and files are processed in your browser and never uploaded. OCR and PDF reading download processing files, including OCR language data and the PDF worker, from this same site only when those tools run; no content goes to third parties. Markdown previews show external images as alt text instead of loading them.
Copying puts a result on your clipboard and downloading saves it as a file, but only when you press the button. The file is created in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
